About Stewardship

Omega Protein Corporation holds a fiscal and environmental responsibility for our neighbors, our community and our planet. Service and cooperation are central to this idea of greater wellbeing.

Since 2007, Omega Protein has contributed more than $100,000 to the YMCA, charity hospitals, college scholarship funds, disabled veterans organizations and other charitable concerns. In addition to monetary donations, our employees frequently give personal time to assist with local charities in their respective areas.

Omega Protein has also adopted a number of voluntary measures to ensure continued sustainability of our primary resource and reduce the potential for user group conflicts in public fishing grounds.

  • We have instituted shore limits and boat proximity rules to assist the local tourism industries.
  • We do not harvest menhaden on weekends or major holidays when recreational anglers and charter boat operators are most active—a voluntary measure that accounts for a 30 percent reduction in fishing by Omega's fleet.
  • We do not fish inside coastal reefs or within the specified distance of any pier.
